世界野生动物保护组织(WCS)招聘广州贸易主管

Job title: Program Manager

Program:Wildlife Trade

Duration:One Year (extendable)

Duty location: Guangzhou

Deadline:Jun.27, 2008


Main responsibilities:

• Implement a program for WCS to implement the strategy and action plan made on unsustainable wildlife trade and consumption in China.

• Provide technical input, support and training for enforcement and other relevant government agencies.

• Promote monitoring programs for international and local wildlife in trade in Guangdong, and measure the impact on local wildlife populations; to liaise with WCS staff in other countries to assess the impact of China’s wildlife trade on wildlife populations elsewhere.

• Promote education and awareness programs amongst the general public, through schools, and to other target communities, e.g., the business sector, TCM communities.

• Raise government support for addressing wildlife trade in Guangdong Province.

• Liaise with local and international NGOs and others working in, or with interest in, management of wildlife trade in Guangdong.

• Coordinate fundraising activities for the programs, in collaboration with WCS staff in China and New York.

• Write and publish documents, reports, books, and technical papers.

• Represent in professional societies, attending meetings, workshops, strategy sessions, etc..

• Promote wildlife conservation in Guangdong specifically, and China and throughout the region more generally.


Qualification required

• Ph.D or equivalent experience in a field related to the conservation of biological diversity, plus at least five years experience working in a related field.

• Ability to speak and write fluently in Mandarin Chinese and English.

• Experience in wildlife trade policy formulation and implementation, familiarity with CITES, wildlife trade trends and policies globally, and within Asia.

• Good diplomatic skills.

• Good communication skills.

• Culture sensitive

• Socially adept and flexible.

• Good natural history knowledge.

• Committed to wildlife conservation.


Additional skills (preferred but not required)

• Experience working with, or familiarity with, international NGOs.

• Experience in running education programs.

• Experience in training, especially in legislation and enforcement related issues.

• Ability to speak Cantonese.


Salary

Pay will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
